In the battle between a former mayor and current mayor of Georgetown, former mayor Tom Prather defeated incumbent Everette "Mutt" Varney Tuesday by only 21 votes.
The final count was 4,294 for Prather and 4,273 for Varney.
Prather, 63, a magistrate on Scott County Fiscal Court, was mayor from 1986 to 1993. Varney, 76, was mayor from 1999 to 2006 and from 2011 to the present.
"I'm delighted with the win," Prather said. "It was razor thin."

Prather said the vote was close because Varney was a popular incumbent and a "very strong competitor."
