Police are investigating the overnight shooting of a Lexington man who had a serious leg injury.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said the man arrived at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital's emergency room about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, saying he had been shot.

Officers were dispatched to the hospital, where the victim stated that two strangers entered his home in the 300 block of Manhattan Drive about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Roberts said.

An altercation began, and the victim was shot, she said.

A roommate later drove the man to the hospital, where his condition deteriorated and he was taken into surgery, according to police.

At last report, the shooting victim had "critical leg injuries" but had been stabilized.

Roberts said the man went into surgery before officers could conduct a thorough interview with him. Police are obtaining warrants to allow them to search the shooting scene, she said.
