Play brings Civil War era to life

Strike Up the Band: Lincoln Comes Home will be at 4 p.m. June 14 at Weisiger Park at the Boyle County Courthouse in downtown Danville.

The play will include authentic Civil War music performed by Saxton's Cornet Band and will feature award-winning Abraham Lincoln impersonator Dean Dorrell as John Todd Stuart, a graduate of Centre College Class of 1826 and a historian.

Stargazing

The Summer Nights planetarium and astronomy program will begin Friday at the Golden Pond Planetarium located at the Golden Pond Visitor Center in the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.

The program features a planetarium theater presentation starting at 8 p.m. in the 40-foot dome planetarium at Golden Pond, followed by live viewing of the night sky (weather permitting) through the 12.5 inch, equatorially mounted, Newtonian telescope at the Golden Pond Observatory.

Beef festival

The Kentucky Fort Harrod Beef Festival will be June 5-8 at Old Fort Harrod State Park and the Mercer County Fairgrounds.

Clack Mountain fest

Clack Mountain Festival will be all day June 7 on First Street in Morehead.Admission is $5. Visit www.clackmountainfest.com.

Great American Brass Band

The Great American Brass Band Festival will be held June 12-15 at Centre College in Danville.

The hours of the event are 2 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
