Non-profit lauded for collaboration

The Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises in Berea is one of 30 semifinalists for the Lodestar Foundation's Collaboration Prize. FAHE was chosen from among 644 nominations. The award, which comes with $250,000, is for the non-profit with the most successful collaborations with other non-profits.

FAHE formed coalitions, known as the Berea performance compacts, to more effectively address the need for affordable housing. The compact leaders are Frontier Housing of Morehead, Community Housing Partners of Christiansburg, Va.; and Appalachia Service Project of Johnson City, Tenn.

The prize winner will participate in Arizona State University's Spring Forum on Nonprofit Effectiveness on March 5.

In October, the Kentucky Housing Corp. presented the 2008 Homeownership Award to FAHE's JustChoice Lending mortgage division at the Kentucky Affordable Housing Conference in Lexington. The award honored JustChoice Lending for providing affordable homeownership solutions.
