The Reading Derby, an annual contest sponsored by the Jessamine County Public Library, Jessamine County Public Schools and local Home Educator Associations, is now accepting competitors. The competition, open to all fourth- and fifth-grade students in Jessamine County, consists of two rounds. For the first, contestants must complete a test for each of seven required books. All preliminary tests must be turned in by April 10. The 10 students with the top scores will proceed to the final round of competition, which will consist of three final round books plus two books that will carry over from the preliminary round. The final round will be a Jeopardy-style contest at the library, 600 S. Main St., Nicholasville, on May 4. For the list of required books, to download the first round tests or for more information, visit www.jesspublib.org or call (859) 885-3523.
