Jessamine Co. | Theater group entertains young students

The Little Company Theatre from Morehead State University entertained students at Nicholasville Elementary on Feb. 22 with a performance of Some Assembly Required. The troupe, funded by an endowment from W. Paul and Lucille Little, followed the performance with an interactive workshop.

Calendar wins award

Nicholasville's 2010 Town Planner calendar won the best overall photography award, presented by a publisher of calendars.

The calendar featured the work of Rebecca D. Higgins of Wilmore, Nancy Stone of Nicholasville and Bill Strauss of Lexington.

Free exercise program

The Jessamine County Health Department will hold an informational session 11 a.m. Wednesday and 1:30 p.m. March 18 about the Strong Women Program, a free 12-week exercise program for women 50 and older.

Attendance at the session is required for participation. There will be a brief presentation and an exercise fitness assessment. The next session begins March 30.

Senior clinical nutritionist Karen Kakar, health educator Andrea Brown and program specialist Kylie Taylor are certified trainers for the Strong Women program, through Tufts University, and will lead the Strong Women sessions.

The program's focus is increasing muscle mass, improving bone density and reducing the risk for osteoporosis and related fractures.
