The woman can't work because of blood clotting in her lungs, high blood pressure and severe obesity.
She was recently hospitalized for more than a week. She was unable to pay her medical bills and her rent.
Once the rent is paid she will be able to manage on benefits she receives from Social Security disability, the KY Temporary Assistance Program, and food stamps.
■ Raine Clark, a counselor at the Dixie Family Resource Center, is working with a couple with a disabled child. They need $608 for rent.
The husband is a self-employed painting contractor. His wife, who had been employed for more than 20 years, was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, and Hepatitis C and is no longer able to work.
She has applied for disability benefits.
