Starting Thursday, in addition to books, computers and magazines, decorated fiberglass foals will call Lexington public libraries home.
Created by Fayette County schoolchildren, the foals — known as Horse Play — are part of LexArts Horse Mania project.
Fifty foals were designed and decorated by elementary and middle school students, and seven full-size horses were created by high school students.
The more delicate smaller horses will be on display inside the libraries; the larger horses will be outside the libraries.
The foals and horses will be on display through October. In February, they will be auctioned to benefit each school's art programs, and youth-related arts and arts education programs.
Horse Mania horses will be displayed throughout Lexington beginning July 15.
Horse Mania, which debuted in 2000, is being brought back this year in conjunction with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games which will be Sept. 25 through Oct. 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
