Shannon Gordon, a social worker at the Senior Citizen Center, submitted both cases received at Lex-Care this week. Her clients' needs were caused by high heating bills during the winter.
Her first case involves a single man who needs $307.13 to have his gas service reconnected. He plans to go on the company's budget plan to stabilize his bills. He also has applied for Medicare savings, which will result in an increase of his Social Security benefit.
When the past due bill is paid and the service is restored, he will manage on his Social Security benefits and food stamps.
Gordon's other client is a widow who was a stay-at-home mom for most of her life. She needs $449.89 to pay her past-due electric bill.
