Betty Higgins of Lexington, whose late mother suffered from Alzheimer's disease, was presented with the 2011 Phyllis George Outstanding Alzheimer's Caregiver-Advocate Award during the fifth annual Alzheimer's Advocacy Day, Feb. 3 in Frankfort. Advocates for the disease, which affects an estimated 80,000 Kentuckians, gathered to raise awareness about the disease and its impact on Kentucky's health care system and on caregivers.
