Frankfort man receives Scott history award

Byron Brewer of Frankfort has received the Ann Bolton Bevins Award at the annual dinner of the Friends of the Georgetown and Scott County Museum, held at the Thomas & King Leadership & Conference Center at Georgetown College.

The award is presented annually to someone who makes an extreme effort to record, preserve and promote the history of Scott County.

The award is named for community historian Ann Bolton Bevins, who presented the award.

Brewer, the son of Rosemary W. Brewer of Frankfort and the late Edward T. "Tom" Brewer, worked for almost two decades as an editor and managing editor of numerous Scott County newspapers. He has written the weekly column, "My Georgetown" for the Georgetown News-Graphic since 2006.

In 2010, Brewer was honored for 30 years of work on behalf of the community when the Scott Fiscal Court and the local Chamber of Commerce decreed Sept. 15 as Byron Brewer Day.
