YMCA honors volunteers

The YMCA of Central Kentucky honored its volunteers of the year on April 21 at The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center.

The Red Triangle Award, the Y's top recognition for a volunteer whose actions exemplify the Y triangle of spirit, mind and body, was presented to Kevin Henry, a lawyer at Sturgill, Turner, Barker and Moloney law firm, who began his service as a member of the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA's Board of Managers. He was later elected to the Metro Board of Directors and has served as the treasurer and secretary. Henry, who has been integral in securing gifts for the Y's Annual Giving Campaign, also serves as chair of the Y's Finance Committee.

The Y presented its Spirit Award to Rob Taylor. The Spirit Award is given to a YMCA part-time staff member who has been with the organization for at least five years and goes above and beyond in service to the Y and its members. Taylor volunteered with the Y for two years and has worked as a part-time staff member for three years at the High Street YMCA.

The Y's Impact Award was presented to Jeannie Thé, associate executive director of the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA. Thé, who has been with the Y for 12 years, began as a wellness instructor, but has expanded her responsibilities through several association and community initiatives. She represents the Y on a United Way task force, is a faculty member for YMCA of the USA national training sessions and works with the local police department and SWAT team for training and certifications. Last September, Thé worked with Alliance Coal on a corporate health and well-being program that is being used as a model throughout the association for what the Y can do to strengthen the community.

The Y also presented branch Volunteer of the Year awards to these recipients for their service: Beaumont Centre Family YMCA, Rick Parsons; High Street YMCA, Mary Sparks; Jessamine County YMCA, Shana Peterson; North Lexington Family YMCA, Scott Walker; Scott County YMCA, Julie Vosler; YMCA Child Development, Patti Stivender; YMCA Community Services, Angela Roberts.
