Jessamine County: Fireworks sale benefits the arts

The Bluegrass Arts Association is celebrating the Independence Day holiday with "Sparklers for the Arts," a fireworks fund-raiser that supports community arts programs in Jessamine County. The fireworks can be purchased at the retail outlet at 2150 Lexington Road in Nicholasville. The Bluegrass Arts Association is a nonprofit group that produces drama and music programs in Jessamine County. More at Bluegrassarts.org.

A high note at 400-mile sale

West Jessamine Middle School Band Director Matt LaBarbara and son Jeff picked up a bargain, a musical instrument, at the 400-Mile Sale on U.S. 68 at the Ichthus Farm in Wilmore. The annual shopping event held during the first weekend in June stretches from Maysville to Paducah and involves more than 60 Kentucky communities.

Kentucky River sweep

Do your part to keep one of Kentucky's most beautiful assets clean and healthy by volunteering for the Kentucky River Sweep, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants in this year's clean-up effort should meet at the John Nickell Boat Ramp at the end of Ky. 39 (Sulphur Well Road.) There is ample parking for trucks and trailers.
