Andrew Olson, a case manager at the Family Resource Center at James Lane Allen School, submitted the only case received at Lex-Care this week.
His client is a divorced mother of two. She needs $700 to cover the cost of car repairs and rent.
The woman is employed part-time, working 10 to 15 hours a week. Recently she had repairs done on her car. She used her rent money to pay the bill. Shortly thereafter the engine's head gasket blew. Her mechanic advised, because of the age and condition of the vehicle, that she should consider the car a total loss.
She has signed on with various temporary employment agencies, looking for a second job. She has experience as a precision assembly factory worker. Her first priority is to solve her transportation problem and find a full-time, better paying job. Income at this time comes from her earnings, Kentucky Temporary Assistance Program (K-TAP) and food stamps.
