The Nest Center for Women, Children and Families needs donations for its Reindeer Express holiday distribution, which serves families who have been clients of The Nest during the past year. The Nest provides services to women and families in crisis, while working to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Reindeer Express is set for Dec. 16 at The Nest in Duncan Park. More than 800 families with a total of more than 900 children have been invited to participate.
The Nest needs wrapping paper, new toys and winter outerwear suitable for children from birth through age 5, and it needs volunteers to help with the event. Call Shelly Ginter at (859) 259-1974, Ext. 29, to arrange drop-off donations.
Eat out benefits agency
On Nov. 30, restaurants in Lexington, Midway, Nicholasville and Frankfort will donate a portion of their proceeds to AIDS Volunteers of Lexington as part of the international Dining Out for Life event. In addition, diners may register to win prizes including a one-night stay at 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, tires from S&S Tire or a VIP tour of Woodford Reserve Distillery. Leaf collection starts Nov. 28
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government's 2011 leaf collection program will be Nov. 28 through Dec. 22. This year, homes will receive only one vacuum pick-up. Couple win sweepstakes
Amy and Troy Antle of Lexington have won Genji Sushi's "Sushi in Paradise" sweepstakes. The Antles had the winning code from Genji Sushi's Tiki Snacker promotion and received a five-night vacation to Hawaii. Training for caregivers
Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Training will be 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Service, 1140 Red Mile Place. Local and statewide experts in aging and Alzheimer's care will present information on the disease, care-giving basics, legal decisions and how to care for the caregiver.
