Lex-Care received a request last week from Susan Temmermand, a case manager at the American Red Cross. Her client is a married veteran with two children who needs $750 to pay one month's past due rent on the apartment the family lives in.
He and his family lived at Fort Drum, N.Y., where he was stationed and recently honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after six years of active duty that included several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The family moved to Lexington because the veteran could join the U.S. Army Reserve unit here, supplementing his earnings from their savings while he looked for a full-time job and permanent housing.
He found a job and an apartment that meets the family's needs. However, he lost two weeks of work because of transportation problems. He has now returned to work, but the loss of income has caused the need to request assistance.
