Jessamine County: Asbury student earns ROTC honor

Asbury University senior Cato McKenzie has been chosen as the wing commander for the Air Force ROTC cadet wing at the University of Kentucky. Asbury is one of several institutions in Central Kentucky that participate in the ROTC program at UK. Each semester, an outstanding cadet is chosen to lead more than 100 other cadets as senior commander based on leadership and proven performance. McKenzie's selection marks the first time an Asbury student has been chosen for the position. In addition to being responsible for all cadet training, the wing commander represents the cadets at events and visits with distinguished guests.

McKenzie was ranked first in his summer field training in 2010 and opted to return in the summer of 2011 as a training assistant, where he was also ranked first. The change of command was celebrated in a ceremony at Barker Hall on the UK campus.
