Two Lafayette seniors earn Eagle Scouts

Eagle Scouts

Ben Mead, 18, a senior at Lafayette High School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Ben is a member of Troop 759, sponsored by Trinity Hills Methodist Church. Ben is the son of Andy Mead and Marybeth McAlister of Lexington. For his Eagle Scout project, Ben collected more than 3,000 books that were given to WorldWide Book Drive, which sent them overseas.

Barrett James Salley, 17, a senior at Lafayette High School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 73, sponsored by Centenary United Methodist Church. Barrett has been active in scouting since first grade as a Tiger Cub and is currently a junior assistant scoutmaster. Barrett is the son of Larry and Vivian Salley and the grandson of Velda Staggs, all of Lexington. For his Eagle Scout project, Barrett oversaw construction of a fence around five air-conditioning units in a courtyard at The Lexington Country Place Retirement Home. He also landscaped the area and built two raised flower beds.
