The case received this week at Lex-Care came from Ashley Gray, a case manager at Lifeline Home Health. Her client needs $740 to replace the fuel pump and brakes on her car.
The woman is a single mother of two, ages 10 and 5. One of her children has cystic fibrosis.
She has been employed for more than 10 years as a certified nursing assistant at a nursing home and is supporting her family. She recently learned that her car was in need of repair, and she does not have the means to cover this unexpected one-time expense.
She needs her car to get her child to frequent doctor visits and to get herself to work and for other errands. There is no public transportation in Versailles, where she lives, or from Versailles to Lexington.
She does not receive child support because the father of her children has been missing for four years. Her only income is from her earnings and food stamps. Once she has reliable transportation, the family will be stable again.
