Join the hunt for ghosts on the grounds of Camp Nelson at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The site of the 1860s era Civil War Union Army Camp will be explored, including the refugee cemetery, prison and forts. Cost is $25 a person. A portion of the proceeds will support the continuing preservation and historical interpretation of Camp Nelson. The hunt will be led by certified ghost hunter Suzanne Starr Williams. Reservations are required by calling (859) 881-5716. Children under 13 are not allowed, and ages 13-18 are allowed with an adult. This is an outdoors event, and appropriate attire is recommended. Valley View Ferry closed until further notice
The Valley View Ferry closed Oct. 17 and will remain closed until further notice for a U.S. Coast Guard dry-dock inspection. Estimated time of closure is three weeks, but is subject to change depending on weather conditions. During the inspection, the car barge will be removed from the water, sandblasted and repainted. Dry-dock inspections are required by the Coast Guard every five years. A dry-dock status report news link is available at Jessamineco.com.
