Military graduations and promotions of area residents.

Lt. j.g. Scott Collard of Lexington sat in the cockpit of an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter assigned to the "Warlords" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 51 on the flight deck aboard the USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60). Rodney M. Davis, stationed in Everett, Wash., is on patrol in the Indian Ocean in support of regional security and stability. It's an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate.

Graduations

Timothy A. Goins has graduated from the Navy's Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C.

Nuclear Power School is a six-month course that trains officers and enlisted students in the science and engineering fundamental to the design, operation and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.

Graduates undergo additional instruction at a prototype training unit before serving as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard a nuclear-powered surface ship or as an electronics technician aboard a nuclear-powered submarine.

Goins is the son of Nancy L. Goins and Timothy A. Goins of Lexington.

He is a 2009 graduate of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2013 from United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.
