Fayette County: Donations for Toys for Tots can be left at S&S Tire locations

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve is accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for its 67th annual Toys for Tots Campaign through Dec. 11. Toys may be dropped off at official collection stations, including these S&S Tire locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

■ S&S Tire Beaumont, 3070 Fieldstone Way, Lexington, (859) 219-2081.

■ S&S Tire Richmond Rd., 2629 Richmond Road, Lexington, (859)-269-8806

■ S&S Tire Brannon Crossing, 500 East Brannon Road, Nicholasville, (859) 272-1440

Local coordinator Sgt. Michael Buikema explained that early toy collection and fund-raising efforts are far behind previous years.

"In 2012 we had $100,000 for toy purchases, last year $60,000 and this year only $16,000," he said.

Buikema encourages companies, groups, churches and individuals to consider holding holiday events to raise money and/or toys for this year's drive. Contact him to arrange a representation of Marines to be present at your event.

Monetary donations can also be made online at or by mail to: Military Police Company Alpha, Attn: Sgt Buikema, Michael (Toys for Tots Coordinator), 151 Opportunity Way, Lexington, Ky., 40511. Make checks payable to Toys for Tots.
