Fayette County: Silver Bells Holiday Gift Drive for seniors is under way

The Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass is once again accepting holiday gifts to fulfill the wishes of residents living in nursing homes. Now in its sixth year, the Silver Bells Holiday Gift Drive brings a little extra cheer for long term care residents who will otherwise receive no gifts during the holidays.

"Long term care residents are all too often forgotten during the holidays. Many miss the tradition of home. The Silver Bells project presents the opportunity for the community to give gifts to residents and for residents to feel the holiday spirit. The response to Silver Bells last season was overwhelming. Well over 250 gift bags were given to residents. I invite the greater community to help us make this year's Silver Bells Holiday Gift Drive an even greater success," said Crystal Bader, executive director of the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency.

To learn more about specific resident wishes and to purchase a gift, call NHOA's office at (859) 277- 9215. Gifts should be turned into NHOA's office at the Lexington Senior Citizens Center, 1530 Nicholasville Road, by 4 p.m. Dec. 17. The gifts should be unwrapped and in a gift bag.
