Woodford County notes: May 19

Kroger commissioning two $10,000 murals for stores

LexArts, in association with Kroger, is looking for muralists with large-scale mural experience living in Woodford, Scott and surrounding counties to create public art. Two commissions are available at $10,000 each. Murals will be installed in the seating areas of the cafés in the Versailles and Georgetown Kroger stores.

The murals, which will be 18 feet long and 6-feet high, can be painted off-site and attached to the wall when finished. The deadline to enter a composition is May 29, with the mural to be completed by July 15. For guidelines, go to Lexarts.org/participate/artists.

Bourbon archaeology

The Jack Jouett House Historic Site and the Woodford County Library will commemorate National Historic Preservation Month with a special program, Bourbon Archaeology: Exploring Kentucky's Distilleries, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room at the library, at 115 North Main Street, Versailles.

Jack Jouett Archaeology Project director Nicolas Laracuente will examine how farm distilleries like Jack Jouett's, which have been excluded from the larger history of bourbon, can illuminate the people, technology and social structures underlying the modern distilling industry.

Admission is free. For more information, call the Jouett House at (859) 873-7902, email info@jouetthouse.org, or go to Jouetthouse.org.
