The American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall, a 300-foot-long replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be at the Kentucky Horse Park beginning at noon Thursday through 3 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission or parking fee for visitors to the memorial, which will be open 24 hours a day.
Like the Washington memorial, the traveling wall displays the names of veterans who died during the war. Those who want to make a pencil rubbing of the name of a loved one may do so.
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said it's an honor to have the traveling exhibit in Lexington. "There are many people who can't go to Washington to see the memorial," Gray said. "This gives people who have never seen the memorial and our entire community an opportunity to pay our respects and say thank you. It's an opportunity to teach our children about the sacrifices that have been made for them and for our country."
