Man charged with murder after stabbing kills 1 in Paris

A Cynthiana resident found hiding under a truck was arrested and charged with murder early Wednesday in the stabbing death of a Berea man, police said.

Jonathan Scalf, 27, of Berea was found by police on Crest Avenue in Paris with a stab wound at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Paris Police Chief Rob Williams said. Scalf was found at a house that belonged to a his estranged wife with whom he had a child.

Police gave Scalf CPR until an ambulance arrived and took him to a hospital, where he later died, Williams said.

Paris police searched for a suspect that had fled when officers arrived, Williams said. The department got help from a Lexington police canine unit.

Daniel Martin, 29, of Cynthiana was found about 12:45 a.m. hiding under a truck "some distance" away from where the stabbing occurred, Williams said.

Martin has been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence, Williams said.
