Woman arrested after leaving grandchildren in hot car

Paris police arrested a woman Saturday afternoon after she allegedly left her two young grandchildren unattended in a hot car for about 20 minutes.

Sheena Brannon, 51, was charged misdemeanor child endangerment, police said.

The car windows were rolled down and the children were not injured, but they were hot and upset, said Lt. Michael Dempsey of the Paris Police Department. The car was not locked.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a grocery store.

“There was a five-year-old and a nine-year-old and they were upset being in the car by themselves,” Dempsey said.

Dempsey said a passerby saw the situation and called police, “just to be on the safe side.”

According to police, the children were checked at the scene by an emergency medical crew, then released to their father.
