A two-vehicle collision killed four people Friday afternoon in Bourbon County.
Bourbon County Sheriff Mark Matthews said four men in a passenger car were traveling south on Cane Ridge Road when the vehicle crossed the center line and turned sideways into the path of a minivan with a couple inside just before 1 p.m.
Bourbon County Coroner Dee Gee Ison-Roe identified the couple as James Henry Stevens, 75, and Margaret Franklin, 70, both of Bourbon County. Franklin died at the scene, and Stevens, who was driving, was pronounced dead at Bourbon County Hospital.
Javier Henriquez, 22, and Julio Barrios, 38, both of Galex, Va., who were in the car, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men in the car were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with unspecified injuries.
The force of the crash threw people out of both vehicles, Matthews said.
Matthews said the men in the car were heading back to work at a local farm when the crash happened. The couple was driving into Paris, which is about 2½ miles west of where the vehicles collided.
Cane Ridge Road is in a rural area of farmland and horse farms.
The vehicles were traveling at the appropriate rate of speed, about 55 mph, Matthews said. Matthews said he did not think any of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
Ison-Roe said toxicology tests will determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
