Ale-8-One Bottling Co. announced Friday that it will soon launch a caffeine-free diet version of its famous soft drink.
The first batch of Caffeine Free Diet Ale 8 will be produced March 1 and begin being sold March 7, according to the Winchester company.
"We have heard from a portion of our customer base that they love our product, but, for medical or health reasons, they are now caffeine-restricted and can no longer drink Ale-8 at all or later in the day," said DeAnne Elmore, marketing and public relations director, in explaining the decision to launch the product.
The soda will be sweetened with Splenda to maintain the flavor of Ale-8-One, Elmore said.
It's the first product introduction by the company since March 2003, when it launched Diet Ale 8.
