Driver arrested after 3-county chase ends in Clark County

Police arrested a 20-year-old man in Clark County on Wednesday afternoon following a car chase that began two counties away.

Officers said Willie Burnett was charged with speeding, fleeing, evading police and marijuana possession. Burnett also had an outstanding warrant for carrying a concealed deadly weapon, police said.

According to the Kentucky State Police post at Morehead, a trooper spotted a car traveling at more than 90 miles per hour on Interstate 64 in Bath County shortly after noon.

The trooper signaled for the car to pull over, but the driver accelerated and the chase began, officers said.

The pursuit continued through Montgomery County and into Clark County, where police stopped the car by putting spike strips on the roadway.

Police said the driver lost control of the car, which ran off the road near mile marker 96, then crashed into an interstate highway sign and overturned.

According to state police, the driver jumped out of the car and ran into a nearby corn field. He was found hiding in some bushes and arrested, they said.
