Four people have been arrested in two states on charges linked to the shooting death of a Richmond man early Wednesday in Clark County.
Kentucky State Police on Thursday morning arrested Kristin A. Mattingly, 45, of Richmond. She was being held in the Clark County jail, charged with murder and attempted murder. Earlier Thursday, authorities arrested two men in Hilliard, Ohio, near Columbus. Kirk A. Garrett, 47, and Christopher W. Coleman, 35, were being held in the Franklin County, Ohio, jail to await extradition to Kentucky.
State police arrested the fourth suspect, Don Earl Attaway, 46, of Richmond, on Wednesday on a murder charge. He was being held in the Clay County jail.
All four are charged in the fatal shooting of Roy E. Combs, 25, of Richmond, who was found about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday off Athens-Boonesboro Road near Hall's on the River restaurant. Authorities think the four were "directly involved" in Combs' death, trooper Robert Purdy said.
Purdy said Coleman and Garrett were arrested as a result of a tip state police received suggesting the pair might be at a home in Ohio; state police relayed that information to officers in Ohio, he said. Ohio police went to the home in Hilliard, where they spotted a Toyota pickup that Coleman and Garrett had been using. Police surrounded the home and arrested the men shortly after midnight, according to Ohio media reports.
