With students who represent 35 nations and come from homes where 16 languages are spoken, Lexington’s Glendover Elementary celebrated its diversity Thursday with an International Night, including a parade in the gym.
“I hope that our children will be the mold breakers,” Principal Catherine Fine said. “The generation that accepts all people, regardless of their race, religion, or lifestyle. I keep asking myself, ‘What should we tell our children?’ Then I realize, we should not be telling our children anything, we should be listening to and watching them.”
“The children at Glendover are a model of what the world can be,” Fine said, “where we realize that we have so much in common, that we are better because we have worked and played side by side and have accepted each other for who we are. Rather than encouraging our children to follow in our footsteps, we should encourage them to establish their own paths, paths that will lead to a world that truly values every culture, every religion, every race and every child.”
