Construction began earlier this month on a 72-unit apartment building at West Fourth Street and Blackburn Avenue.
The $10 million apartment building, called the Flats at 345, will have one- and two-bedroom apartments, a fitness center and yoga studio, an outdoor kitchen area, a pool and a club room, according to a news release from Cowgill Properties Inc., the building’s owners.
The four-story apartment building is expected to be completed by next spring. Rents will range from $995 to $1,395.
The Lexington Fayette Urban County Council unanimously approved a zone change for the building at a meeting in March. At that meeting, several neighbors raised concerns about parking and traffic in the rapidly growing area next to the Jefferson Street corridor.
Jefferson Street has become a hub for restaurants and bars. The popular Legacy Trail also goes through the area. Work on an extension of the trail, which is near the new apartment building, is scheduled to begin soon.
Mike Harris, vice president of Cowgill Properties, said he hopes the apartment building will complement the recent growth in that area of Lexington and spur future development.
