The Lexington Police Department opened its new Central Sector Roll Call facility at Eastland Shopping Center on Wednesday.
The 17,000-square-foot facility is double the size of the previous sector house and will be where patrol officers report for duty each day. The new site replaces a roll call facility on nearby Goodwin Drive.
“This new facility gives our police the room they need to operate efficiently, but keeps them firmly rooted in the neighborhoods they serve,” Mayor Jim Gray said in a statement.
Police Chief Mark Barnard said the new building is more visible and accessible to the public and has all of the amenities it needs.

In addition to patrol, the building houses units from the special operations and investigations bureaus, which will improve efficiency and collaboration within the department, police said.
The new center is adjacent to Durman Drive, a street renamed in 2010 in honor of Officer Bryan Durman, who was a Central Sector officer killed in the line of duty.
