A woman’s body was found Thursday in an apartment on Winburn Drive, and the Lexington police robbery and homicide unit is investigating.
Kimberly Dianne Dayton, 37, was strangled and died of asphyxiation, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
Officers found Dayton at the Matador North Apartments in the 1000 block of Winburn Drive at about 8:30 p.m., according to Lexington police.
Dayton’s death is one of two Lexington homicides in the last two days, bringing the 2017 total to 28 and breaking the city’s record. The previous years with the highest homicide numbers were 1999 and 2001 with 27 each.
