The Urban County Council voted 14-1 on Thursday to approve a $180,000 agreement with Blue Grass Community Foundation to oversee and begin raising more than $50 million in private donations for the Town Branch Commons, a 2.5 mile linear downtown park.

The agreement is in addition to more than $10 million in borrowing for the project. The city has also applied for a $13 million competitive federal grant for the first phase of Town Branch Commons. The combined state and federal money would be used to build the infrastructure for the park, which is designed to connect the city's downtown to its trail system.

Private money would be used to build a series of pocket parks and other amenities.

Councilwoman Jennifer Mossotti voted against the agreement. Mossotti said she felt the city should expand the agreement to include fundraising for all park projects.
