A car smashed into a Lexington apartment complex on Wednesday night, leaving a huge hole in the apartment where the car's driver lives.
Major C.J. Tackett said firefighters were called at 10:20 p.m. to the Fayette Crossings Apartments, 260 East Reynolds Road, after a four-door Mazda jumped a curb, slid through grass, destroyed a sign and collided with a wall.
The driver was not hurt. It did not appear he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Tackett said.
The collision knocked debris into the bathroom of the apartment in which the man and his family live.
Tackett said the managers of the apartment complex were putting the family in a hotel overnight as maintenance crews repaired the wall.
Police and firefighters closed East Reynolds Road for about an hour. The road reopened just before 11:40 p.m.
