Donald Mason, who has been interim director of the Lyric Theatre since March, has been named executive director effective Oct. 5.
Mason is a graduate of Asbury University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in management and ethics.
In his new job, Mason will be responsible for day-to-day operation of the 540-seat theater, supervising a staff of three full-time and two part-time employees. The adjoining Cultural Arts Center houses the DeWeese Street Community Room, an art gallery and museum space. The theater and gallery are at East Third Street and Elm Tree Lane in Lexington.
"I believe my hard work and that of my dedicated staff has led the board to make this decision. As the new executive director, I'm excited about continuing to move the Lyric forward as one of the city's premiere arts and cultural venues," Mason said in a news release from the city of Lexington, which owns the Lyric. The theater is governed by a 15-member board of directors.
