The city will begin vacuum collection of leaves on Nov. 4 and continue through Dec. 18. You can find your scheduled vacuum week on lexingtonky.gov/leaves. New this year, the city is offering text notifications about the leaf vacuum program. To sign up for the notifications, go to citygram.org/lexington and click on the leaf collection button. Enter your address and cell phone number. You can also opt to get a weekly e-mail notification.
Rake the leaves into the service area between the sidewalk and the street the Sunday before the scheduled vacuum collection. Never rake leaves into the street; they can cause traffic hazards and clog storm drains. Piles should contain only leaves. Other objects, such as tree limbs and rocks, can injure crew members or damage equipment.
Residents with city waste services also can dispose of leaves on any regular collection day by using the gray yard cart or yard waste bags. Coupons for free yard bags were distributed in the Waste Management newsletter; you can get more coupons by calling LexCall at 311.
