A man died and a woman was severely injured Sunday night after a vehicle struck them near the intersection of Bryan Station Road and New Circle, Lexington police said. The man was dead at the scene and the woman was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital with life threatening injuries. Their names were not released Sunday night. Lexington fire and police responded about 8:54 p.m. after a Chevrolet Aveo hit the man and the woman in the westbound lane. The vehicle stopped about 1,000 feet away from the suspected point of impact, said Lexington fire department major Ed Davis. Tim Gilvin was returning to his apartment behind Bryan Station Inn, where his wife is an assistant manager, when he heard a speeding vehicle. He looked up and saw the couple standing on the side of road, possibly getting ready to cross, when a red vehicle struck them. The vehicle seemed like it was going "65 to 70 miles per hour" he said . The car dragged the man several feet and the woman's body was thrown against the pole, he said. Gilvin said he has seen the man before because he stayed at the motel. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
