Man slain outside apartments

A Lexington man died Wednesday after he was shot outside an apartment complex on Sixth Street, police said.

Charles Irvin Holder, 31, of Lexington, died at University of Kentucky Hospital after the shooting about 7 a.m. at Coolivan Apartments at 551 West Sixth Street, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.

Holder was one of four people in a car that pulled into the apartment complex's parking lot Wednesday morning, Lexington police Sgt. Paul Williams said. A dispute followed, Williams said, and witnesses said two men wearing hooded sweatshirts fled in the light-colored, four-door, mid-size car. The license plate contained the letters M and C.

Officers found Holder lying in the breezeway of an apartment.

Holder's criminal record included burglary, assault, felony theft, driving under the influence, bail jumping and leading police on high-speed chases. He did stints in various county jails and state prison. Court records identify him as a brick mason.

Lexington police, who have not made any arrest in the case, ask that anyone with information call (859) 258-3700 or Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020.
