Woman menaced on UK campus; police issue advisory

A University of Kentucky student reported that a man followed her on campus and tried to grab her, UK police said Thursday night.

About 8:25 p.m., UK police said in an advisory to students, a woman was walking from the Lafferty Hall area through central campus and across Rose Street. A man followed her, and between the Mining and Mineral Resources Building and the W.T. Young Library, he tried to grab her. She resisted and ran away toward the library, police said.

The man was described as white, in his 30s, wearing blue jeans or dark pants, a waist-length dark coat with a hood, and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information should call campus police at (859) 257-1616.

Police advise people to stay in well-lit areas, walk with friends and carry a cell phone. If you are attacked or threatened, shout "Back off!" or "Stop!" and fight back if you are touched.

For a free escort, call (859) 257-SAFE (7299) or UK Police at (859) 257-1616.
