A portion of Shillito Park that is "in distress and in need of reforestation" has been chosen for the 2009 edition of Reforest the Bluegrass.
On April 11, volunteers will plant 7,000 seedlings in the park.
The four acres to be planted are near a stream. City crews already have cleared brush and invasive plants from the area.
"This area will one day be home to a lush canopy of native trees and plantings," Tim Queary, the city's urban forester, said Monday.

The program started in March 1999. More than 160,000 trees have been planted in Masterson Station Park, Coldstream Park, Jacobson Park and in several greenways.
This year, planting takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For the first time, volunteers may register online at http://rtb.eventbrite.com. Also for the first time, Reforest the Bluegrass has a Facebook page.
