About 75 Lexington firefighters fought a fire that burned as many as 100 cars at a salvage yard on Cahill Drive on Tuesday afternoon. The site is off McConnell Springs Road in the Cahill Industrial Park.
Lexington Fire Chief Bob Hendricks said there were "many cars on fire, probably on the order of 50 to 100." Hendricks said the cars were stacked and packed together.
A building associated with the salvage business was also on fire. Hendricks said the building is about 500 feet long, and about a fifth of it had been destroyed.
Hendricks said it was unclear how the fire started, but he said the business was open at the time and work was going on.

At 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a blaze on Laco Drive, about a mile from the salvage yard down Old Frankfort Pike.
Some truck-size shipping containers and a building were burning at Equipment Sales & Storage, Hendricks said. He said no cause had been determined.
