No charges expected in Kroger crash

No charges are expected against the woman who crashed her sport utility vehicle into a Kroger on Romany Road Saturday, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

JoAnne W. Gauntt, 79, of Lexington, was attempting to park on Romany Road around 3 p.m. when she stepped on the gas peddle instead of the brake, police said. After hitting and causing minor damage to a car parked on the street, Gauntt's Cadillac Escalade accelerated into the store, according to police reports.

Police were called to the scene for assistance only; they ruled the collision as accidental, Roberts said.

Crews were still repairing the Kroger Tuesday. The store re-opened Sunday after building inspectors gave the all-clear.
