Brief brownout hits Horse Park

The Kentucky Horse Park and the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event have been tested by spring rains this year, but the latest test was apparently a fluke.

The equestrian event lost power for more than an hour Friday, just as the dressage competition was about to break for lunch. Horse park spokeswoman Cindy Rullman said Kentucky Utilities determined that the problem was a blown fuse somewhere on Ironworks Pike and was unrelated to the park's power use.

The blown fuse caused a widespread brownout throughout the park, but most fans were unaffected because generators kicked in and kept lights on at the trade fair and deep-fryers sizzling at the food court.
