Charges dismissed in helicopter laser light case

A Fayette County grand jury on Monday dismissed charges against a Cynthiana man who authorities had accused of shining a green laser light into the cockpit of a airborne Lexington police helicopter.

Jonathan Tyrone Maybrier had been charged with two felony counts of wanton endangerment in February.

According to records at police headquarters, Sgt. Patrick Murray and Officer Dennis Smith of the police department's helicopter unit said someone in a car aimed the laser pointing device into the cabin of Air One while it was flying near Richmond and New Circle roads. Aviation authorities say laser beams can temporarily blind pilots.
