Fayette County Soccer Frenzy features top teams

Several of the state's top soccer teams will converge on Lexington this week to start the soccer season with a frenzy: a Fayette County Soccer Frenzy.

The eight-team boys' tournament, which will be played at Paul Laurence Dunbar, features five teams ranked in the coaches' pre-season top 25 poll and three other teams (Lafayette, Tates Creek and Oldham County) that also received votes.

The favorite is No. 2 Male, followed by No. 4 Dunbar, No. 9 Manual, No. 22 Henry Clay and No. 23 Central Hardin.

There was no pre-season poll done by the girls' coaches, but the field looks loaded with talent, including teams that coaches around the state have mentioned as contenders, such as Tates Creek, Henry Clay, Woodford County, Boyle County and Anderson County. Paul Dunbar, Lafayette and South Laurel also seem primed to post some upsets this season.

The girls' tournament will take place at Henry Clay. Both championships, based on a points system from game results, will be played Saturday night.
