A man was arrested in Lexington on Monday after police found him sitting on the playground of Yates Elementary School with a knife and an ax blade beside him.
John D. Snyder, 44, was charged with criminal trespass and unlawful possession of a deadly weapon on school property. He was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on Monday night.
School employees first saw the man sitting under a tree on the school campus Friday afternoon during dismissal, said Fayette County public schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall. They stopped dismissal, brought the children back inside and called police, but the man left before police were able to apprehend him, she said.
On Monday afternoon, Snyder was spotted again at about 2:15 p.m., and the school was placed on lockdown while officers were called, Deffendall said.
