A Lexington man died Monday morning after his car collided with a garbage truck near the Lansbrook shopping center, Lexington police said.
Raymond E. Labonte, 83, was leaving the shopping center when he drove in front of the Central Kentucky Landfill and Hauling garbage truck, which was traveling south on Lansdowne Drive near Tartan Drive, police said. Witnesses told police that Labonte failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
Labonte and his wife, Lucy Labonte, 71, who was a passenger in the car, were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where Raymond Labonte died about 10:50 a.m., Lexington police said.
Lucy Labonte was listed in critical condition late Monday afternoon.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the family," said Greg Elkins, general manager of CKY Landfill/Hauling.
The driver of the Central Kentucky Landfill and Hauling garbage truck, Ronnie B. Manns Jr., 28, of Lexington, was not injured.
